The Best Ways to Lock and Secure Your Electric Scooter

Electric scooters are a valuable investment, and keeping them safe should be a priority. With rising cases of theft, knowing how to lock and secure your ride properly is essential.

The right lock, smart security habits, and a few extra precautions can go a long way in preventing theft. Whether you’re making a quick stop at a café or leaving your scooter outside during an errand, this guide covers the best ways to keep your ride safe.

Here’s what you need to know to make sure your dash 3 is secure.

Why securing your electric scooter matters

Electric scooters are a top target for thieves. They’re lightweight, portable, and often left unattended in public places. A stolen scooter can disappear in seconds if not properly locked.

Even if you’re just running into a store for a minute, leaving your scooter unsecured is a risk. Opportunistic thieves look for quick wins, and an unlocked ride is an easy target.

Securing an e-scooter isn’t just about avoiding loss, it’s about peace of mind. A few simple security measures can ensure your scooter is exactly where you left it when you return.

Types of locks for electric scooters

Not all locks are created equal. The best choice depends on how often you ride, where you park, and the level of security you need. Here’s a breakdown of the most effective options:

U-locks

These are the gold standard for security. Made of hardened steel, they’re tough to cut through and perfect for high-risk areas.

Chain locks

Heavy-duty and flexible, chain locks wrap around larger structures, making them ideal for securing your scooter in different locations.

Folding locks

Compact and easy to carry, these provide solid protection while taking up minimal space in your bag.

The key to theft prevention for electric scooters is layering security. Using two different lock types makes your ride even harder to steal.

Best places to lock your scooter

Choosing the right locking location is just as important as the lock itself.

Locking to immovable objects is a must. Secure your scooter to a solid bike rack or pole, something that can’t be lifted or broken.

Avoid flimsy structures. Signs, fences, and thin poles might seem secure, but they’re often easy to cut or detach.

Well-lit, high-traffic areas deter theft. Thieves prefer low-visibility spots where they can work unnoticed. Parking near security cameras, store entrances, or busy sidewalks makes a huge difference.

Additional security measures beyond locks

A lock is your first line of defense, but extra security layers add even more protection.

GPS trackers

A hidden GPS tracking for scooters allows real-time location monitoring. If your scooter gets stolen, you can track its movements and increase the chances of recovery.

Alarm systems

Motion-triggered alarms create loud alerts when someone tampers with your scooter, drawing attention and scaring off thieves.

Smart locks

App-controlled locks offer advanced security features, like remote unlocking, notifications, and tamper alerts.

Taking a multi-layered approach to securing an e-scooter makes it significantly harder to steal.

Best way to lock your dash 3

The dash 3 comes with built-in security features that make theft prevention even easier.

Set a pin on your dash 3

  • In the settings menu, use the arrow keys to navigate to “PASSWORD.”
  • Press the “M” button to select it.
  • Navigate to “ON” and press “M” to enable the PIN feature.
  • Use the up and down arrows to choose your 3-digit PIN. Press “M” to select and move to the next digit.
  • When done, hold “M” to confirm.
  • Navigate to “EXIT” and click “M” to exit.

Your PIN is now set. The next time you power on, you’ll need to enter it using the arrow keys and press “M” to confirm each number.

⚠ WARNING: Entering an incorrect PIN will prevent the use of your dash 3. Be sure to remember your PIN—there is no way to reset it.

Take your battery with you

If you’re locking an electric scooter outside for an extended time, removing the battery makes it less appealing to thieves. Without power, the scooter is useless.

Bring your scooter inside

The easiest theft prevention for electric scooters? Don’t leave them outside. The dash 3 is designed to transition perfectly from riding outdoors to riding indoors. Simply ride your dash 3 indoors wherever you may be going to keep it as safe as possible.

Secure your ride

Keeping your electric scooter safe is all about smart habits. A combination of strong locks, strategic parking, and extra security measures offers the best protection.

Don’t let theft get in the way of your ride. Stay ahead with the right security steps and enjoy the freedom the dash 3 brings.
